Hey, you guys were right about the mystery photo from last week – piano hammers they are.
Lucky me, I have was gifted 88 beautiful Steinway piano hammers by my aunt-and-uncle-in-law, who recently had their antique grand piano rehammered. They are so cool (both Rudy & Frances and the hammers!)
I have a few ideas of things to make with them, but the trick is doing as little as possible with them – they are imbued with so much beauty and energy already, I don’t want to mess that up. Imagine, what, almost a century of music? Of practice, of intention, has moved through and thrilled these hammers. So many musicians. So many songs. These are powerful artifacts.
I made the A0 hammer into a pendant for my mother-in-law’s 67th birthday. Just a few silver beads and knotted cord to set it off.
She was thrilled!
And it went perfectly with her brunch outfit, too.
